The Albrecht family established the first ALDI in Germany in 1961 to provide “great quality with everyday low prices.” In 1976, the first United States store opened in Iowa.

Walmart
Sam “Mr. Sam” Walton founded Walmart in Rogers, Arkansas, in 1962. Walton’s business strategy of “the lowest prices anytime, anywhere” created a “retail revolution.”
The 411 Pewaukee Road location offers an Auto Center and Pharmacy open until 7 PM, a Vision and Photo Center open until 8 PM, and Pickup and Delivery until 10 PM.

Pick ‘n Save
Pick ‘n Save, owned by Kroger, started in 1883 with Barney Kroger. Kroger decided to invest $372 (his life savings) to open a standalone grocery store in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, at 66 Pearl Street.
Over 100 years later, Kroger is the United States’ “largest grocer,” with almost 2,800 stores in 35 states and 28 names.
The 1405 Capitol Drive store offers customers a bakery, deli, meat department, seafood department, floral section, sushi, beer, wine, liquor, and even lottery tickets.

Thomas Balistreri Senior opened the first Sendik’s on the corner of Shorewood’s Oakland Avenue and Capitol Drive. Nearly 100 years later, Sendik’s is still giving shoppers high-quality merchandise and support.
